The EU is working on a new directive to force electronic device manufacturers to make batteries easy to remove by the consumer. The directive would effectively outlaw the iPod which requires technical assistance for the removal of the in-built battery.
The aim of the directive is to make it possible for consumers to recycle the batteries of electronic devices which have reached the end of their useful lives.
If it becomes part of EU legislation, Apple would probably come up with a quick redesign to cater for their European market.
