Every shop on the island (or almost) is on sale at the moment, many slashing prices by more than 50% to make way for the Autumn stock. Shopping during the sales in understandably tempting seeing that money goes a much longer way, but things that get worn once and then locked away forever are hardly bargains, even at half price. This month Yell gives you the lowdown on how to grab the real bargains:
1. Before you set out bargain hunting take a look at your wardrobe. Make a mental note of what you have too much of and what you’re missing so that what you buy will get as much use as possible.
2. Set a budget. Decide how much you want to spend and stick to the amount – ideally withdraw the cash beforehand and leave the cards at home.
3. Try before you buy. Although the heat and queues make a trip to the changing room a nightmare, it’s always better than finding your new trousers turn on your bum’s widescreen settings. Many stores do not exchange items sold during sales and even if they do you are unlikely to find the next size as the stock keeps diminishing.
4. Go for the classics. If a particular style has been all the rage this summer it is unlikely to be back next year. Going for the less trendy items will mean you’re less likely to ditch them as “soo last year” when summer reappears.
5. Buy only the good stuff. Elementary, you might be screaming – well, not quite. Knocking off half the price often makes things shine a little brighter as does the whole atmosphere of people buying mountains of clothes all around. Don’t buy anything you wouldn’t
consider at full price, you’re unlikely to keep wearing something you don’t quite like or that does not fit perfectly, just because it was cheap.
