Situated a mere ten minutes away from the port of Pozzallo, Marsa Sicla Residence in Sampieri is a far cry from the busy and bustling areas I am accustomed to selecting for my holidays. Being my first family holiday, with my son being twenty eight months old – I was a bit sceptical to whether I would actually get to relax this time!
Just two hours after departing from Malta by ferry, my boyfriend, my son and myself were seated to a delicious breakfast of freshly baked breads, croissants and Sicilian delicacies; in the intimate outdoor breakfast area overlooking the pool.
The atmosphere at Marsa Sicla is idyllic, almost like being situated in another world. Waking up every morning to the sound of birds chirping, fresh air and peace is something I could get used to! The apartments are beautifully constructed and decorated in a fresh Mediterranean style, with the choice of a ground floor apartment complete with a private garden, or a first floor apartment with its very own veranda – perfect for relaxed nights ‘in’ accompanied by local Sicilian wine.
With each apartment having self-catering furnishings: a kitchenette and clothes-washing facilities – holidaying with the kids has never been easier! The modern and spacious apartments, delightfully decorated to every minute detail make one feel like they are in a home away from home – with the added benefits of having everything you need a stone’s throw away – and ample time to relax! A private parking place in front of every apartment makes it easy to rent a car to take the family out for the day. During our three days residing at Marsa Sicla, a mere 20 minute drive took us to the baroque-style town of Modica, maintaining some of the most beautiful architecture in Sicily. The centre of Pozzallo, just 15 minutes away by car is also a must-see.
Never have I had the luxury of lying down on a sunbed by a pool and not having to wake up every three minutes to drag my son away from the edge of the pool – or worse – chase him before he disappears from eyesight. At Marsa Sicla the pool is conveniently designed with the kids in mind – going from shallow to deep, so for once in a lifetime here I could relax and watch my son happily splashing at the water’s edge, and running across the massive pool area which is easily visible from the sun bed area. The Olympic-length laps, of course – is another story– I preferred to spend my days by the pool lounging in the sun! The friendly animators (and the rest of the staff you can say!) – were more than happy to entertain my little boy, and once the day was over, little Yanik was exhausted from all the running around and let the grown-ups enjoy the lovely piano bar at Marsa Sicla and the surrounding areas of Pozzallo for some drinks.
Typically of a Sicilian nature, the mouth-watering food served at the restaurant tickled every one of my tastebuds – one is certainly spoilt for choice! I did feel a little heavier after 3 days of eating complete 4-course meals – all part of the holiday! I would certainly recommend Marsa Sicla to any family wanting to relax while the children are safely at play – with plenty of adventures to look forward to with the facility of a rented car. Best of both worlds. Bliss.
